What does a Web Designer do?
Succinctly, a Web Designer is a professional who performs web design. Therefore, in order to better understand its function, we have to know the concept of web design. See below:
"Web design is an area that executes processes that involve planning, creating, and maintaining interfaces for websites, web applications, and digital interfaces in general, taking into account information architecture, navigation, usability, and other aspects that should involve design fundamentals."
Soon a Web Designer plans, creates and maintains digital interfaces for web considering important aspects of Design.
Among the most common types of digital web interface we can highlight:
- Site pages;
- Blog pages;
- Virtual stores;
- Social networks;
- Softwares online;
- Sales pages;
- Landing pages;
- Search mechanisms;
- among others.
Do you need to be a Designer to work with Web Design?
If you form a Designer will be a differential for those who want to create interfaces for web, but Do not believe to be the first way you should take into account that many good professionals do not even have this training.
You can therefore become a Web Designer without studying Graphic Design. All you have to do is use all possible means to learn the concepts of Design.
Web Design is an area that derives in suma from graphic design, logical that with its particularities that refers to the application to web devices, but the main concepts such as color theory, Typography, shape, Grid, Images, among others, are present for this area.
So you have different possibilities to learn these concepts. You can learn at:
- online or in-person courses,
- reading books,
- consulting the web,
- in contact with other professionals,
- at congresses and lectures, etc.
But all this will only be as strong as attending a college if you put into practice in the day-to-day.
In the video below you can see the differences between Web Designer and Graphic Designer.
It is worth mentioning that a higher course in Design will always be welcome. The point is that it just isn't enough to make you a professional in the field and not even a successful Web Designer.
What doesn't a Web Designer do?
The reason this question is here is because there is a lot of confusion in people's minds when associating Web Designers with other areas.
A Web Designer does not repair and formats a computer. You may know it, but it's not his job. It doesn't even mess with the net. It doesn't mess with a broken printer or anything.
And most importantly, although the site building process employs some advanced languages, Web Designer is also not a programmer. It only employs languages that come against its functions that are HTML and CSS, and that you can meet them on the blog on here is on here.
What are the prerequisites for being a Web Designer?
To want! Yes, that's right! Wanting to be a Web Designer can be considered the main requirement as long as you are willing to research, study and practice.
Some things can help you like:
- Like Design;
- Like Technology;
- Like Arts;
- Like to solve problems;
- Like to help people.
- Be creative;
But fundamentally having discipline to learn and put into practice what has been learned, is the main thing.
What is the salary of a Web Designer?
Several factors can influence how much a professional in the field earns. We can take into account your level of experience, the region of the country, the segment of the company, etc.
On average a Web Designer earns 2 to 4 thousand reais. But I know professionals who earn up to 3 times more than that working as a freelancer and I have worked with professionals who work as a registered employee (CLT) who also earn values 2 or 3 times more. The main issue, what influence on this, is that you can show your value to the market and conquer your space, whether in a company or autonomously.
If you want to understand a little better about this salary issue for Web Designer I leave below a video in more detail:
Where can a Web Designer work?
He can work in various sectors that require digital interfaces for web such as in communication departments, marketing, advertising agencies, IT companies, startups, video producers, newspaper publishers and online magazines, NGOs, among others.
An interesting point is that it can also act independently, such as Freelancer or agency, providing services.
How is the job market for Web Designers?
Since 2014, the figures indicated that the segment was growing rapidly when about 51.3 million people had already used the internet at least once to make a purchase.
One levantamento do NZN Intelligence showed that 74% of people prefer to shop over the internet than in physical stores. By applying this percentage to the population of Brazil, estimated at around 210 million, 155.4 million prefer to buy online than offline.
This alerts entrepreneurs to the need to hire Web Designers to strengthen the online presence of their companies.
As for the creative sector, there is a survey conducted by ABRADi, referring to the last Census conducted in 2013 and only released in 2016 that shows that this sector, which is responsible for the development of sites reached 30.4% of that obtained by the digital sector. According to the same Census, revenues were R$ 2.7 billion.
Only this data gives you enough reasons for you to follow in the area. Some other excellent reasons you can also see in the following video.
The technology market, in general, in Brazil is very new and lacks skilled labor. You can believe it. Despite living in wide expansion, there are lacks of qualified people on all fronts.
What fundamental knowledge for web design?
As I mentioned earlier it is important to focus on design fundamentals such as alignment, contrast, shape, perspective, harmonica, color, images, typography, diagramming, gestalt, semiotics, etc.
And languages like HTML e CSS focusing on Web Standards.
In addition to all this knowledge it is also important to know how to handle some software as I will talk about in the next topic.
What tools does a Web Designer use?
Basically a Web Designer handles tools for planning and creating interfaces and for editing code.
The tools worth investing your time for learning are Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel Draw and some code editor like Sublime Text for example.
For layout creation you can contact specific tools for layouts such as Sketch (MAC only), Figma, and Adobe XD.
If you have to build e-books, InDesign can be indicated. And if by chance your focus is videos you can learn to mess with After Effects, Premiere, Sony Vegas.
Is taking a Web Design course necessary?
You can choose to acquire knowledge in various ways as I mentioned in this article, however taking a web design course can speed up your learning and still show you things you didn't even know existed.
Imagine you having to search for all the content you think you need to become a Web Designer. How long would it take you to collect content that is usually scattered? And yet there is the fact that a beginner does not always have the idea of what to research since he is in contact for the first time with the area.
A Web Designer course has the advantage of bringing together in one space, in an organized and classified way everything necessary for learning.
